AUSSDA & AMDC for Data:Research:Austria —
Survey and Register Data Linked for Urban Research

What is this about?
Reusing survey data and linking register data: From policy questions to data-answerable problems
+ Outlook on the upcoming Data:Research:Austria funding call
How can survey and register data power urban research for “Climate‑Neutral and Smart Cities” (EU Mission Cities, aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities)?
This 90‑minute online webinar connects the EU Mission Cities and SDG 11 with Vienna’s Research Questions and a practical tour of Austria’s social science data ecosystem.
AUSSDA (The Austria Social Science Data Archive) demonstrates how to discover, reuse, and publish survey datasets, complete with rich metadata and DOIs for visibility and reproducibility. The Austrian Micro Data Center (AMDC) outlines secure access to register microdata from Statistik Austria: what’s possible, how applications work, and what compliance and timelines look like.
We then focus on combining both worlds — augmenting surveys with registers — to answer pressing urban questions on housing, mobility, and climate resilience with showcases of applied examples. You’ll learn what to consider regarding linkability in study design (including Austria’s sector‑specific personal identifier, bPK), for planning anonymization and documentation in your Data Management Plan, and where typical pitfalls lie.
We close with an outlook on the upcoming Data:Research:Austria (ÖAW) funding call and practical next steps.
This session will be followed by a second webinar dedicated to funding specifics.
