Joined forces on the way to Open Science - Austrian EOSC Mandated Organisation was founded

18.10.2021

The University of Vienna is a founding member of the new Austrian organisation for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)

The University of Vienna is consistently pursuing its path of strengthening and expanding research data management (FDM) as an integral part of good scientific practice - at the European, national and institutional level.

Since last year, the University of Vienna has been a member of the EOSC Association, the European organisation for the development of EOSC. Representatives of our university are also involved in various European working groups to promote the development and establishment of EOSC.

At the Austrian level, the EOSC Support Office Austria was founded, which works as the operational unit of the Austrian EOSC Mandated Organisation. The Mandated Organisation was founded on October 13, 2021, during the first General Assembly in Vienna. In addition to the University of Vienna, the TU Vienna, the TU Graz, the Natural History Museum Vienna, the JKU Linz and the Climate Change Centre Austria are members. By participating in EOSC, the University of Vienna is helping to create a trusted place where researchers from all over Europe and from every discipline can store and share their data, as well as find and reuse data. Austrian institutions have now joined forces in the Mandated Organisation to coordinate and advance EOSC goals, to make science and research more transparent and sustainable, and thus to effectively meet the societal challenges of our time.

The university is also taking measures internally to provide researchers with the best possible support in handling their data - from planning their research project to data reuse. To this end, the University of Vienna recently launched its FDM policy. In addition, there is now a central contact point at the university, rdm@univie.ac.at. Researchers can contact this address for every question related to RDM.
